Texas Wesleyan University Head Football Coach Brad Sherrod Accepts Position at Morehouse College
FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University announces that Head Football Coach Brad Sherrod has accepted the head coaching position at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga. Sherrod, who led the Rams football program since 2024, departs after two highly successful seasons that elevated the program to new heights in the NAIA.
During his tenure at Texas Wesleyan, Sherrod transformed the Rams into one of the top programs in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and nationally. In his debut season in 2024, he guided the team to a historic 10-1 overall record, including an undefeated 8-0 mark in conference play, culminating in the program's first-ever outright SAC championship and a berth in the NAIA Football Championship Series playoffs. The Rams advanced to the Second Round of the postseason, marking a groundbreaking achievement for the program reinstated in 2017.
In 2025, Sherrod built on that momentum, leading Texas Wesleyan to a 7-5 overall record and a strong 7-1 conference mark, sharing the SAC title. The team earned its second consecutive NAIA playoff appearance, showcasing continued improvement in both offensive and defensive performance. Under his leadership, the Rams consistently ranked among the conference leaders in scoring and total yards, while developing a culture of discipline, excellence, and student-athlete success. Sherrod's recruiting efforts and strategic vision positioned the program for sustained competitiveness and national relevance.
"Coach Sherrod brought tremendous energy, experience, and commitment to Texas Wesleyan University," Texas Wesleyan University Director of Athletics Ricky Dotson said. "His impact over the past two seasons has been profound, establishing a foundation for future success and inspiring our student-athletes, staff, and fans. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him the very best in his new role at Morehouse College."
Texas Wesleyan will immediately begin a national search for Sherrod's successor, with the goal of identifying a leader who will build upon the program's recent momentum and continue the climb toward national prominence in NAIA football. The ultimate aspiration remains bringing a national championship to Fort Worth.
In the interim, Offensive Coordinator Fran Johnson has been named Interim Head Coach. Johnson, a key member of Sherrod's staff, brings extensive experience and deep knowledge of the Rams' system, ensuring a seamless transition during the search process.
