SB: Rams Split Saturday Matchup with Evangels; Start Conference Play 3-1

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Wesleyan (9-8, 3-1 SAC) split their doubleheader against Mid-America Christian (3-10, 1-3 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Saturday, securing a decisive 7-1 victory in the first game but falling 7-3 in the second.

In game one, Kylie Barnes contributed significantly with a home run and a solid performance on the mound, striking out five while allowing just three hits. Texas Wesleyan took control early, with Arieanna Hernandez opening the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer to left center. KK Moore followed with a double, and after advancing to third, she scored on Kadynce Crenshaw's double. Crenshaw then scored on Haylie Delarosa's single, putting Texas Wesleyan up 3-0 after two innings.

In the third inning, Payton Blanco was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a throwing error before Barnes hit a two-run homer to left center, extending the lead to 5-0 by the end of the inning. Mid-America Christian scored its only run in the fifth inning with a solo homer by Jorji King, bringing the score to 5-1 in favor of Texas Wesleyan.

The Rams added two more runs in the sixth inning. Moore singled, and after an error, both she and Crenshaw, who had singled earlier, scored on Delarosa's single, bringing the final score to 7-1.

Barnes delivered a complete game performance for Texas Wesleyan, pitching 7 innings and allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out 5 batters. She demonstrated control with only 2 walks issued across 89 pitches, achieving a WHIP of 0.71. The left-hander also contributed offensively, hitting a home run and driving in 2 runs. Delarosa had two hits and three RBIs, both with runners in scoring position. Hernandez added a solo home run and scored one run. Crenshaw went two-for-two with a double, one RBI, and scored two runs, also securing a stolen base.

In game two, Texas Wesleyan faced Mid-America Christian again, but this time the Rams fell to the Evangels with a final score of 7-3. The Rams managed seven hits, with two runs scored in the fifth inning, while the Evangels tallied 12 hits, including two home runs.

Mid-America Christian took an early lead in the first inning when Kayten Herman homered to left center, giving them a 1-0 advantage. The Rams equalized in the second inning when Moore scored on a fielder's choice, capitalizing on a throwing error, tying the score at 1-1.

However, Mid-America Christian regained the lead in the third inning, scoring two runs off a double by Herman, ending the inning with a 3-1 lead. The fourth inning saw the Evangels extend their lead further, highlighted by King's three-run homer, putting them up 7-1 at the end of the inning.

Texas Wesleyan responded in the fifth inning when Barnes doubled to right center, driving in two runs and narrowing the deficit to 7-3. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, leading to the final score of 7-3 in favor of Mid-America Christian.

Barnes again made a significant contribution with two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Blanco posted two hits and demonstrated defensive capability with five assists. Hernandez recorded two hits and pitched a single inning, allowing one earned run. Houston added a hit and scored one run in the game.

The Rams travel to Chickasha, OK to take on the University of Scince & Arts in a four game series with two doubleheaders starting with a matchup on Friday, March 6 at 5pm and 7pm.
