SB: Rams Claim Series Over Pioneers; Move Into Third Place in Conference Standings

PLAINVIEW, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (23-18, 17-11) secured a decisive 14–4 victory over Wayland Baptist University (23-17, 13-15) on Friday, followed by a tight 4–3 win in the second game of the doubleheader.

In Game One, Texas Wesleyan overcame an early deficit to secure the victory in game one. In the third inning, the Rams tied the game with key hits. Payton Blanco singled to center field, bringing home Kadynce Crenshaw and Haylie Delarosa, with Crenshaw's run being unearned. The inning ended with a 2–2 tie.

The fourth inning saw an offensive surge from the Rams. Christina Jackson scored on an EB Zimmerman double. Delarosa and Crenshaw each contributed with RBI singles, with an additional run scoring on a fielding error. By the end of the inning, Texas Wesleyan led 6–4.

A commanding sixth inning sealed the game for Texas Wesleyan as it added eight runs. Delarosa, Blanco, and Kylie Barnes each contributed with RBIs, while Zimmerman added a sacrifice fly. The inning concluded with Texas Wesleyan ahead 14–4. The final score was Texas Wesleyan 14, Wayland Baptist 4.

Kylie Barnes pitched 6 innings for the Rams, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 batters. In the third inning, the Rams took the lead after EB Zimmerman doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Payton Blanco, putting them up 1–0 by the end of the third.

The fourth inning saw further offensive production from Texas Wesleyan. Christina Jackson and Reagan Avants both walked, setting the stage for Zimmerman's RBI double, which brought Jackson home. Haylie Delarosa then tripled, driving in Zimmerman and Avants to extend the lead. The Rams concluded the fourth inning with a 4–0 advantage.

Wayland Baptist responded in the fifth inning. A triple by Kynleigh Kirby brought home two runs, narrowing the margin to 4–2. In the seventh inning, the home team scored once more when Kirby doubled, driving in another run. However, Texas Wesleyan's defense held firm, and the game concluded with a final score of 4–3 in favor of the Rams.

Reagan Avants delivered a complete game performance for Texas Wesleyan, pitching all 7 innings. Avants allowed 11 hits and 3 earned runs while issuing only one walk. Despite not recording any strikeouts, Avants threw 101 pitches, 68 of which were strikes, showcasing control throughout the outing. This performance brought Avants' record to 2-4 for the season.
