SB: Late-Inning Heroics Help Rams Sweep Aggies in Thursday Doubleheader

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Wesleyan (18-17, 12-10) swept Oklahoma Panhandle State (5-31, 3-19) in a doubleheader at Sycamore Park, first securing an emphatic 8-0 victory followed by a narrow 6–5 win.

In the first game, Texas Wesleyan's offense was dominant, racking up 11 hits, including four doubles. Kylie Barnes showcased her pitching prowess, delivering a complete game shutout with only one hit allowed over five innings, striking out five batters. The Rams took an early lead in the first inning when Haylie Delarosa scored on a ground out by Arieanna Hernandez, making it 1-0 after one inning.

The fourth inning saw Texas Wesleyan extend their lead: Payton Blanco doubled and scored on a single by Ashley Darilek, who later crossed home plate following a single from Delarosa. By the end of the fourth, the score was 3-0. The Rams sealed their victory in the fifth inning with a five-run explosion. Barnes doubled and scored on a double by Blanco, followed by a single from Darilek that brought Blanco home. EB Zimmerman added another run with a double, and a wild pitch allowed Zimmerman to score. A fielder's choice from Rachet Houston capped off the scoring, leading to a final score of 8-0.

Barnes delivered a masterclass as she narrowly missed out on a no-hitter, striking out five batters and only allowing one hit as she threw five complete innings to secure the win and moved her record to 12-6 on the year.

In the second game, Texas Wesleyan faced a tougher challenge but emerged victorious with a decisive five-run sixth inning. Oklahoma Panhandle State initially took the lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Summer Marron, scoring Haley Emmerson. The Rams responded in the second inning when Delarosa's RBI single brought in EB Zimmerman, tying the game at 1–1. However, Oklahoma regained the lead in the third inning with an RBI single from Gracie Lankford, making it 2-1.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Texas Wesleyan turned the tide in the sixth. Barnes doubled to left center, driving in two runs, and Blanco followed with a three-run homer to left field, putting the Rams ahead 6-3. Despite a late rally by Oklahoma in the final inning, with Flora Moreno's single bringing in two runs, Texas Wesleyan held on to win 6-5.

On the mound, Hope Grant pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Rams in the second game, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits, while striking out three and walking four. Reagan Avants made a brief appearance, pitching 1/3 of an inning for a save.

Offensively, Haylie Delarosa was a standout, recording three hits and one RBI in the second game while also contributing in the first. Barnes collected two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in the second game, while Blanco's performance included a home run and three RBIs.

The Rams face off against the Aggies once again tomorrow in a doubleheader at 12pm and 2pm.
