BB: Texas Wesleyan Moves On with 3-1 Conference Tournament Win

FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University (40-8) secured a 3-1 victory over College of the Ozarks (25-26) on Saturday at Sycamore Park. The Rams capitalized with a two-run third inning and strong pitching that allowed only one run on eight hits.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Jack Erickson was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a pitching error. Idelfonso Garcia singled to left field, driving in Erickson for the first run. Brendon Vela later singled to center field, bringing Garcia home and giving the Rams a 2-0 lead through three innings.

College of the Ozarks scored its only run in the sixth inning. Brody Tyler reached base on an error and later scored unearned on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Fisher. The Rams responded in the bottom of the sixth when Jonathan Pena singled to right field, scoring Endi Jaquez, who had singled and advanced to third on a pitching error, to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Rams' pitching staff kept College of the Ozarks scoreless in the final three innings, with Ty Sansom closing the ninth by striking out two batters. The Rams earned the win with a final score of 3-1. With the win, the Rams advance to Joplin, MO to take on the other three conference tournament series winners in a double-elimination tournament.

Jose Casado delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching 6 innings and allowing no earned runs while scattering 7 hits. Casado struck out two batters and issued three walks, earning the win with a pitch count of 77, 47 of which were strikes. Michael Stewart contributed 2 innings of relief, conceding only one hit and striking out one. Sansom closed the game with a scoreless inning, striking out two and securing the save with 15 pitches, including 11 strikes.

Casado recorded six innings with two strikeouts and allowed no earned runs, securing his first win of the season. Pena contributed with two hits and one RBI, adding to the team's offensive efforts. Sansom pitched a scoreless final inning, striking out two batters to earn the save. Garcia scored once and collected one hit along with an RBI, contributing to the team's scoring.
