SHREVEPORT — Texas Wesleyan University (31-7) secured a decisive 7-1 victory over No. 4 Louisiana State University Shreveport (32-8) on Tuesday at Pilot Field. The Rams tallied 11 hits and capitalized on an error by LSU Shreveport, scoring three runs in the third inning and another three in the eighth.
The scoring opened in the second inning when
Marcos Carrion singled and scored on a
Daniel Hernandez triple, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.
The third inning saw further success for Texas Wesleyan.
Jose Rangel walked and was driven in by
Brendon Vela's RBI double.
Jorge Herrera followed with a double, aided by a fielding error, allowing Vela to score.
Jack Erickson then singled to drive in Herrera, extending Texas Wesleyan's advantage to 4-0 through three innings.
In the eighth inning, the Rams increased their lead. Erickson was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a single from
Gabriel Supelveda. Further RBI singles by Hernandez brought in
Giuseppe Buttaci and
Jonathan Pena, resulting in a 7-0 lead. LSU Shreveport managed to score one run in the bottom of the eighth via a sacrifice fly by Makana Olaso, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
The game concluded with Texas Wesleyan holding a 7-1 advantage, reflecting a strong overall performance.
Ty Sansom delivered a solid start for the Rams, pitching 3 innings without allowing a run, while giving up three hits and striking out one batter.
Noah Huerta contributed with 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits and one walk, maintaining a scoreless effort with a ground-ball double play. Rey Rivera, Jr. added 1 2/3 innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out one, further solidifying the team's pitching depth. Despite
