MSOC: Rams Struggle Against No. 20 William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Texas Wesleyan (0-1-0) was defeated by William Carey (MS) (1-0-0) with a final score of 6-0 on Thursday night. William Carey tallied three goals in each half to secure the win.

The first period began with Texas Wesleyan showing defensive resilience as goalkeeper Rafael Dos Santos made crucial saves, including one against Daniel Mulero's attempt in the 15th minute. Despite this, William Carey broke the deadlock in the 18th minute with a goal from Jean Danitanga, assisted by Souleymane Balde.

As the period progressed, the visiting team faced increased pressure, resulting in two more goals from William Carey. Daniel Mulero scored in the 31st minute, and Kenson Pierre extended the lead in the 36th minute with Mulero's assist. The Rams' efforts to respond were contained, closing the period trailing 3-0.

The second period began with the Rams looking to shift the momentum in their favor, starting with a corner kick by Selmane Azibi at the 50:36 mark. Despite efforts to apply pressure, Texas Wesleyan's defense was challenged by William Carey, which resulted in a goal by Souleymane Balde in the 56th minute, assisted by Daniel Mulero, extending the home team's lead.

Midway through the period, Texas Wesleyan faced a further setback as Jean Danitanga netted another goal for William Carey in the 63rd minute, again with an assist from Mulero. The visiting team continued to compete but was unable to break through offensively while William Carey sealed the match with a third goal in the 79th minute by Fernando Pirry, assisted by George Steers. Texas Wesleyan concluded the game with a defeat, as the score stood at 6-0 in favor of William Carey.

Rafael Dos Santos played the full 90 minutes and made three saves for the Rams, facing nine shots in total. Chandler Brookins managed one shot in the match, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Despite the defensive challenges, Dos Santos remained active in goal with two saves in the first half and one in the second.

Daniel Mulero led William Carey with a standout performance, tallying one goal and three assists while taking five shots, two of which were on target. Jean Danitanga contributed significantly by scoring two goals, including the game-winner, with both of his shots finding the net. Souleymane Balde added to the team's success by scoring once and assisting another, taking a total of four shots with two on goal. Fernando Pirry and Kenson Pierre each scored a goal, with both players' sole shots of the match resulting in goals.
