HILLSBORO, Kan. — Texas Wesleyan University (1-0-1) secured a 4–2 victory against Tabor College (0-1-0) on Wednesday at Joel Wiens Stadium. The Rams' offense recorded 16 shots, with 11 on target, to outpace Tabor's seven attempts.
The first half began with the Rams applying early pressure, highlighted by
Sahara Gipson's corner kick that led to a goal by
Jimena Agular in the 11th minute, assisted by Gipson. The Rams maintained the offensive momentum, with multiple shots on target that were thwarted by Tabor's goalkeeper, Maria Saavedra Mejia.
Despite the Rams' persistent attacking, Tabor managed to equalize in the 34th minute through a penalty kick by Haven Deckinger. The period concluded with the score level at 1–1, as both teams headed into halftime.
The second half began with the Rams asserting their presence immediately. Gipson capitalized on an early opportunity, netting a goal at the 51:05 mark to edge her team ahead 2–1. However, Tabor responded swiftly, equalizing in the 55th minute through Haley Rogers, assisted by Makenna Balzer, leveling the score at 2–2.
Texas Wesleyan regained momentum when Gipson scored her second goal of the match in the 68th minute, pushing the team back in front.
Sydney Chavez extended the lead in the 75th minute with a goal assisted by
Amelia Roach, securing a 4–2 advantage. The Rams maintained their lead through the remainder of the half, concluding the match with a 4–2 victory.
Gipson made a strong impact with two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal. Chavez contributed significantly to the offense by scoring once and leading the team with six shots, four of which were on target. Agular added a crucial goal, converting her only shot into a score. Roach provided the assist for one of the goals, showcasing her playmaking ability.
The Rams return home next week as they take on the Jaguars of Texas A&M-Victoria on Thursday, September 3 at 1pm.
