ALEXANDRIA, La. — Texas Wesleyan University (0-2-1) battled to a 0-0 draw against Bethel University (TN) (1-1-1) on Friday at Generals SOC Pitch. The Rams' goalkeeper recorded 11 saves, helping to secure the shutout in a match where the Wildcats had 18 shots.
The first half began with a strong defensive showing from the Rams. Goalkeeper
Rafael Dos Santos was pivotal, making multiple saves throughout the half. Despite Bethel pushing forward with several shots, Dos Santos kept the score level with saves at the 19th, 20th, 32nd, 40th, 41st, and 44th minutes.
Texas Wesleyan attempted to capitalize offensively, with shots from
Walter Palacios and
Peter Tenorio, though both were unable to find the back of the net. The half concluded without any scoring from either side, leaving the game tied at 0-0.
The second half began as the Rams looked to capitalize on their opportunities, with
Diogo Stefane's shot hitting the post in the 53rd minute. Dos Santos was instrumental in maintaining the scoreline, making crucial saves against the Wildcats, including stops in the 56th and 59th minutes.
As the half progressed, Texas Wesleyan continued to press forward, with
Stanley Fovargue's header attempt being blocked following a corner kick by
Henrique Soares in the 74th minute. Despite several attempts, including a late shot by
Chandler Brookins that was saved, the match closed with the scoreboard unchanged, ending in a 0-0 draw.
Dos Santos recorded 11 saves, keeping a clean sheet throughout the match. Stefane contributed by taking two shots, though none found the target. Brookins added one shot, which was on goal, testing the opposing goalkeeper. Palacios also finished with one shot on goal, adding to the team's offensive efforts.
Serzhan Aitzhanov stood out for Bethel with a team-high four shots, two of which were on target. Sam Neill also made an impact by registering five shots, all of them on goal, showcasing a consistent offensive presence.
