SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (3-2-1) lost to Texas A&M University-San Antonio (1-2-1) 4-1 on Monday. Texas Wesleyan faced 18 shots, including 13 on goal, and finished with six goalkeeper saves and three defensive saves.
Texas Wesleyan reached halftime trailing 1-0 after Kaylee Haskins scored for Texas A&M University-San Antonio at 17:12. Earlier,
Sahara Gipson had Texas Wesleyan's first chance turned away by a defensive save at 5:01 before Texas Wesleyan held through a long stretch of shots and corner kicks, getting three defensive saves and saves from
Adriaa Hardy at 13:21 and 15:56. Texas Wesleyan responded with
Maribel Vargas' corner at 18:24 and back-to-back header attempts from
Kennedy Green and
Sydney Chavez, then built another spell of pressure after the half-hour mark with a Vargas corner, a Vargas shot saved by Natalia Manzanarez, Gipson's shot stopped by a defensive save and another Vargas look that went wide. Hardy added two more saves in the final minutes, and Texas Wesleyan defended a late corner at 43:51 to keep the halftime score at 1-0 in favor of Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
Shannon Middleton scored in the 76th minute to get Texas Wesleyan on the board and pull the score to 3-1. Earlier, Texas Wesleyan created a second-half push while trailing 1-0, with
Addison Hanner and Gipson forcing saves from Natalia Manzanarez before another Texas Wesleyan shot went high. Texas A&M University-San Antonio answered with goals in the 59th and 68th minutes, and Texas Wesleyan continued forward with a saved shot in the 72nd minute followed by a Vargas corner kick. After Middleton's goal, Hardy made a save in the 82nd minute and
Amelia Roach put a shot wide, but Texas A&M University-San Antonio added one more goal in the 85th minute to close out Texas Wesleyan's 4-1 defeat.
Middleton scored on her only shot, putting it on goal for Texas Wesleyan. Hardy recorded six saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Gipson led Texas Wesleyan with three shots, all on goal. Vargas added two shots, including one on goal.
The Rams continue their road stretch as they travel to Pineville, LA to take on Louisiana Christian University on Thursday, September 17 at 5pm.
