DALLAS, Texas — Texas Wesleyan University (1-3-4) tied Paul Quinn (1-7-1) 2-2 on Thursday.
Nicholas Duderstadt scored at 82:28, with
Tyrece Grant assisting, as Texas Wesleyan equalized late.
Texas Wesleyan generated 11 shots and five corner kicks in the first half, but Paul Quinn scored twice and sent Texas Wesleyan to halftime down 2-0. Earlier, Texas Wesleyan opened with pressure as
Rudy Gonzalez had a shot blocked,
Diogo Stefane forced a save from Morgan Kendall and
Henrique Soares added a corner and a saved shot inside the first six minutes. After
Noah Epler-McDonnell saved Bryson Bolton's shot in the eighth minute, Texas Wesleyan kept creating attempts through
Christobal Garcia,
Walter Palacios and
Peter Tenorio before Mateusz Gladych put Paul Quinn ahead at 22:31. Texas Wesleyan answered with two Stefane corner kicks and shots by Garcia and
Nestor Salazar, but Joel Sorto's 38:46 goal made it 2-0. Texas Wesleyan then earned another corner six seconds later and had
Nathaniel Neang head a shot high, with Salazar also shooting high and Stefane taking a final corner before the half ended.
Texas Wesleyan erased a 2-0 deficit in the 83rd minute, with Duderstadt scoring at 82:05 off an assist from
Jesus Rodriguez and adding the equalizer at 82:28 from Grant to make it 2-2. Earlier in the half, Epler-McDonnell made a save on Marco Gonzalez at 46:35, and Texas Wesleyan answered with shots on goal from Stefane and
Christobal Garcia in the opening minutes. Texas Wesleyan continued to create chances through the middle of the half, recording five shots and two corner kicks from 56:10 to 65:56, including saved attempts by Soares, Neang and Stefane. In the late stretch, Texas Wesleyan earned three corners from 80:45 to 82:08 and, after Duderstadt's equalizer, added four more shots before the match finished in a 2-2 draw.
Duderstadt scored twice on three shots, putting two attempts on goal. Stefane led Texas Wesleyan with four shots and placed three on frame.
Jesus Rodriguez and Grant each recorded an assist. Epler-McDonnell made three saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
The Rams come home next week as they take on their final non-conference opponent in Howard Payne University on Tuesday, September 22 at 6pm.
