Biography

2009:  Played in nine games, including seven starts…named NAIA Scholar-Athlete…received the O.D. and Maurice Bounds Scholar-Athlete Award…went 5-1 with a 1.02 GAA and two shutouts while notching 38 saves and a .826 save percentage…named RRAC Defensive Player of the Week three times…worked all 104:06 and made six saves in a 2-1 overtime win over Wayland Baptist (8/28)…notched a season-high eight saves at St. Gregory’s (9/19) and against Our Lady of the Lake (10/8)…played the field and scored two goals on four shots in a 16-0 win over Southwestern Adventist (10/17).

 

2008: Team Captain...named 1st-team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American after posting a paltry 1.34 GAA and 85 saves...received the O.D. and Maurice Bounds Scholar-Athlete Award...recorded five shutouts on the season and combined on one more...began the season with back-to-back shutouts at McMurry (8/29) and at Howard Payne (8/30) and was named RRAC Defensive Player of the Week...recorded consecutive shutouts against SAGU (10/11) and Northwood (10/16)...had a season-high 11 saves in a 1-0 win over Northwood (10/16) and again in a 5-2 win at USW (10/25).

 

2007: Named 1st-team All-Conference after leading the RRAC with 104 saves...received the team’s 3-D Award...received the O.D. and Maurice Bounds Scholar-Athlete Award...posted a 1.81 goals against average in 15 matches...recorded first career shutout after making one save in a 3-0 conference win at Bacone (10/9)...tied the school record with 23 saves against defending champion Huston-Tillotson in the RRAC semifinals and then stopped two shots in the ensuing shootout (10/26)...made seven saves in a double-overtime shutout in the RRAC title match against UT-Brownsville before falling in a shootout (10/27).

 

2006: Redshirt.

 

High School: Named team captain and led his team to a district championship in 2004...named Rookie of the Year in his first season with Lilla Traslovs FF in 2003.

 

Personal: Born Joakim Soederbaum, May 2, 1984, in Varberg, Sweden...son of Lars and Birgitta Soderbaum...has two brothers, Christofer and Gustaf...is majoring in English and exercise science.
