Bobby Garza

Robert Garza is entering his ninth season (2026) as head baseball coach at Texas Wesleyan University, guiding the Rams to a 244-120 overall record during his tenure.  He served the previous four seasons (2015–2017) as an assistant coach before taking over as interim head coach for the final 39 games of the 2018 season.

Under Garza's leadership, the Rams have established themselves as a consistent contender in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and the NAIA landscape. Since joining the program in 2015, he has guided the team to multiple NAIA National Tournament Opening Round appearances and developed numerous professional prospects.

  • 2025: 27-24 overall (11-16 SAC) — The Rams finished with a .529 winning percentage, strong at home (23-7), and advanced to the SAC Tournament as the No. 8 seed, where they competed in the opening round against top-seeded Wayland Baptist.
  • 2024: 27-20 overall (15-9 SAC) — Finished fourth in the conference standings, showcasing continued competitiveness.
  • 2023: Notable success included winning the SAC regular-season championship (36-13 overall, per historical reports), earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament under Garza's direction.
  • 2022: 35-19 overall (15-9 SAC) – Finished fourth in the SAC standings. The team excelled at home with a 23-6 record, earned a No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, and advanced before falling to top-seeded Oklahoma City. Six Rams received All-SAC honors, highlighting the squad's depth and talent as Garza continued building the program into a consistent NAIA contender during his fifth season as head coach.
  • 2021: 27-16 overall (15-6 SAC) — Finished third in the SAC despite COVID-19 challenges; six All-Conference selections, including four first-team (Greyson Barrett, Kaden Brown, Jalen Evans, Nelson Vera); two SAC Gold Glove winners (Brown at SS, Brayden Bahnsen at CF); nine Academic All-Conference and three SAC Scholar-Athletes.
  • 2020: 18-12 overall (5-3 SAC) — Season cut short by COVID-19 after strong starts, including wins over ranked opponents; four All-SAC honorees and notable individual performances (e.g., Gabriel Sequeira's NAIA-leading 82 strikeouts).
  • 2019: 46-16 overall (20-7 SAC) — First full season; NAIA National Tournament Opening Round bid; third-most wins in program history; shattered single-season strikeouts record (521); second-team NAIA All-American Parker Robinson; five All-SAC and three NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
  • 2018: 25-14 (13-8 SAC) as interim head coach for final 39 games — Led to 36-16 overall; historic offense (.345 AVG, 71 HR, 384 RBI); NAIA Player of the Year Kiki Menendez (nation-leading 26 HR, school records in multiple categories); five All-SAC.
In his tenure as head coach through 2025, Garza has compiled a strong winning record, with highlights including conference titles, tournament appearances, and program records. He has coached multiple All-Americans (including Kiki Menendez as 2018 NAIA Player of the Year Parker Robinson and Grayson Barrett), dozens of All-Conference players, NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and seen 18 players advance to professional baseball.

In 2025, select Rams players joined a historic European tour under Garza's leadership, aligning with the program's mission to provide global experiences.

Garza had an extensive coaching career prior to Texas Wesleyan, serving as Assistant Head Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for eight seasons at Northwood University (helping secure a No. 3 national ranking, Avista NAIA World Series appearance, and conference championships), and earlier at Dallas Baptist University and First Baptist Academy High School in Dallas.

A native Texan from Texas City High School, Garza played catcher at Dallas Baptist University after stints in baseball and football at Tyler Junior College.

Garza and his wife, Stephanie, and daughter Hattie reside in Cedar Hill.
