Calvin Powell will serve as Offensive Coordinator on Head Coach Joe Prud’homme’s staff. Powell brings eight years of coaching experience, including five at the collegiate level to Texas Wesleyan.
Powell comes to Texas Wesleyan from Temple University where he was an offensive graduate assistant helping the Owls to a 10-4 record and an appearance in the inaugural American Conference Championship game, as well as the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl.
Powell was an NAIA athlete himself. After graduating from Duncanville High School he attended Southwestern College (KS) where he played on the offensive line.
Prior to his season at Temple, Powell was the running backs coach and video coordinator at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx, NY.
He also worked two seasons at Langston University, a fellow member of the Central States Football League, as well as one season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M University (running backs and tight ends coach). With Langston, he was an offensive graduate assistant and running backs coach for one season and offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for another. There he coached the school’s all-time leading rusher, Carlos Ross, as well as three 1st-team All-Conference selections on the offensive line.
Powell has also logged two seasons at the Greenhill School in Addison, TX (offensive line coach and offensive coordinator) and another at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, TX (offensive line coach and running game coordinator).
Powell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management from Southwestern College and a Master’s degree in educational leadership from Langston University. He currently resides in Duncaville.
