Dwayne Taylor, Jr. is in his third season (2020) as an assistant with the Texas Wesleyan University football program, working as the Rams' Wide Receiver Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
Taylor previously spent time at Trinity International University as their Defensive Backs Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator as well as Special Teams Coordinator. He has also been a head coach as well as a coordinator at the high school level in Mississippi and Louisiana.
In two seasons at Trinity, Taylor worked with a secondary unit that included three NCCAA All-Americans and four All-MSFA Midwest League defensive backs. Taylor also coached Jarell Carter, whose senior campaign earned a spot at rookie mini-camp with the Chicago Bears and is currently on the 53-man roster for the Arizona Cardinals. As Trinity’s recruiting coordinator, Taylor brought in a number of new Trojans who made an immediate impact both on the practice field and on Saturday afternoons. In two season as Recruiting Coordinator he saw five members of his recruiting class become NCCAA All-Americans.
Before Trinity, Taylor was the Defensive Coordinator at Wilkinson County HS in Woodville, MS. There, Taylor led a defense that saw a 55% decrease in points per possession upon his arrival. Wilkinson County also earned an MHSAA state playoff berth, falling to eventual state champion Collins HS in the third round. Â
In 2014, Taylor was named Head Coach at Delta Charter School in Ferriday, LA. Taylor was responsible for preparing a first-time football program for the school, and in his first year, Delta Charter went 4-4 with only 8th 9th and 10th graders competing at the varsity level.
Before heading to Woodville Taylor was the Offensive Coordinator/Associate Head Coach at St. Helena Central (LA) where he oversaw an offense that doubled its points per game, yards per game, and touchdowns. The firepower of his offense lead St Helena to the Playoffs for the first time in eight years under his leadership.
Coach Taylor is a graduate of Alcorn State University in Alcorn, MS, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation. Taylor played safety and was a 4-year letterman for the Braves, and was named special teams captain in his senior year.  As a two-year starter in the secondary, Taylor participated in game planning with coaches, as well as the breaking down film of the previous game with coaches.Â
Taylor is a native of New Orleans, LA, where he attended McDonogh 35Â HS during his prep years. Taylor was a two-time All-District selection and All-State selection in his senior year. He was a member of the National Honor Society maintaining a 3.4 GPA. Taylor also lettered in Baseball and Track during his prep years.
