RYAN LEICHUS | SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR - DEFENSIVE LINE
Ryan Leichus will be entering his second year on staff with the Texas Wesleyan football team as the special teams coordinator, and the defensive line coach for the 2023 season.
During the 2022 season he orchestrated a special teams unit that accounted for 7 special teams touchdowns, and 8 blocked kicks. He helped mentor sophomore Jaysen Price who earned accolades such as All-American, conference athlete of the year, and first team all conference as a returner, along with punter Greg Blaser earning second team all conference, and Armando Benitez receiving honorable mention accolades as a freshman. He also coached a defensive line that was able to produce 31 sacks, 68.5 tackles for loss, and contribute to the overall success of the defense allowing only 14.8 points per game. He helped in guiding three defensive linemen to all conference honors with Kobe Adams receiving first team all conference, Sir Hill receiving second team all conference, and Shaun Tolbert receiving honorable mention. With special teams, and the defensive line combined he over saw five conference players of the week, and helped guide the Rams to their first conference title since the program’s revival in 2016.
Prior to his arrival at Texas Wesleyan, Ryan spent two years at the University of North Texas working as a student assistant with the defensive backs and special teams.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Ryan was a Defensive end at Texas Wesleyan University for two years (2018-2019), helping to create a foundation for what the program has become today. Prior to earning a scholarship to Texas Wesleyan, he played at Yuba community college (2016-2017) in Sacramento, California.
Ryan is a United States Army veteran, serving as an Infantryman from 2012-2016. While in the military he saw one tour overseas, and earned awards such as his Expert Infantryman badge.
Ryan was born, and raised in California, and currently resides in Fort Worth with his wife Ariann, and their one year old daughter Selena AnnMarie.
