Brennen Shingleton is entering his eleventh season (2022-23) as head coach at Texas Wesleyan after serving as an assistant coach and later as an associate head coach for ten years. Shingleton holds an overall record of 189-112 (.620), ranking second on the program's all-time wins list. He reached 100 wins during the team’s National Championship run in 2017, making him the fastest coach to reach the milestone in the history of the program.
Shingleton was named Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2017 while leading the Rams to three consecutive regular season conference championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was also named NAIA National Coach of the Year while leading the Rams to their second national title in 2017.
Shingleton has amassed a record of 419-222 (182-112 as head coach) during his time at Texas Wesleyan and has helped produced 61 All-Conference players, 23 All-American selections, including six first-team NAIA All-Americas, and the program's only two-time Academic All-Americans CJ Higginbotham (06-07) and Praneeth Udumalagala (17-18).
Shingleton was a member of the NJCAA Region 14 Conference Championship team at Lon Morris College in 1993. After a year at Lon Morris, Shingleton played at NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University. During his time as a Lion, the team won a share of the Trans America Championship, finished second in the polls, and was ranked as high as 32nd nationally by USA Today.
Shingleton joined the Texas Wesleyan basketball program in 2002 as an assistant coach. He earned his first win as a head coach during the 2006-07 season, after leading the Rams to a 113-78 win over Bacone College.
Shingleton completed his master’s in business administration at Texas Wesleyan University in 2005. He and his wife, Amanda, have three daughters, Kendall, Natalie, and Riley, and one son, Connor.

2021-22: 19-12, 12-10 SAC
In the 2021-22 season, in the 10th season as Head Coach of the Rams, the COVID-19 pandemic still played a factor in the Rams season. With a limited roster and having to play upwards of 11 different starting lineups, the Rams still managed to compete and contend for the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship into late January. Three Texas Wesleyan University basketball team members were honored, including SAC Newcomer of the Year Kristian Lafayette. Lafayette, a junior forward out of Detroit, Michigan, was named to the second-team and the all-defensive team. Junior guard Peyton Sallee (Fort Worth, TX) was named to the third team. Senior Vydal Bradford (Fairfield, CA.) was an honorable mention selection. Peyton was also selected for the SAC's Academic All American and Commissioners Honor Roll. SAC Newcomer of the Year Kristian Lafayette was the only player in the SAC to average a double-double, scoring 11.6 points per game and snagging 10.4 rebounds per game. Lafayette started 20 of 25 games and scored a career-high 22 points against Wayland Baptist. Lafayette corralled 15 or more rebounds in 6 games this season and was the leading rebounder in the conference. Peyton Sallee garnered a third-team selection and was the second top scorer on the team, averaging 14.3 points per game, shooting 41.5 percent from the field. The sharp-shooter made 2.9 threes per game and averaged 4.1 rebounds per game. Senior Vydal Bradford was an honorable mention selection. He led the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game on 45 percent shooting from the field. Bradford started 23 games this season for TXWES.
2020-21: 10-6, 6-4 SAC
NAIA National Tournament Qualifier
In the 2020-21 season, the COVID-19 pandemic limited the Rams to just 16 games, but Coach Shingleton guided his athletes to a 10-6 record and the program's fifth NAIA National Tournament appearance in the last six years. The Rams got out to a 3-0 start before the remainder of the fall slate was canceled. The Spring semester featured a 78-48 shellacking of John Brown, and wins over Oklahoma City and USAO. The SAC Tournament pitted the Rams against a MACU team that they had not faced during the regular season. The Rams pushed the Evangels to overtime before falling by a 70-64 final score. The Rams then received an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament where they were defeated in the opening round at Carroll College. Vydal Bradford was an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American after leading the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Bradford and Peyton Sallee were 2nd-team All-SAC selections while Sebastian Karwoski was an Honorable Mention All-SAC pick. The Rams also had success in the classroom with three Academic All-SAC selections and two SAC Scholar-Athletes.
2019-20: 21-9, 14-6 SAC
NAIA National Tournament Qualifier*
The 2020 season will be remembered across the sports landscape as a season of what might have been. The Rams had completed the regular season with a 21-8 record and a 14-6 record in SAC play when the COVID-19 pandemic halted play. The team was ranked as high as 19th nationally and was rated 23rd in the season's final poll. As the third seed in the SAC tournament they suffered a 98-96 loss in a shootout with the University of Science & Arts (OK); however, they had earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. The Rams were set to make the program's 17th National Tournament appearance (4th with Shingleton at the helm) and compete for a third National Championship when the season was halted. The team featured three All-Conference selections in Peyton Sallee and Akeem White (2nd-team) as well as Sam Lorenzen (Honorable Mention). Sallee and White were also named Honorable Mention NAIA All-American, while Sallee and Shalimar Whitfield were named Acedmic All-SAC as well as SAC Scholar-Athlete.
2018-19: 14-16, 9-13 SAC
The Rams went 14-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play. Peyton Sallee was named SAC All-Conference
2017-18: 22-11, 14-6 SAC

The Rams won their third consecutive SAC Regular Season Championship with a league record of 14-6. Branden Jenkins was named SAC Player of the Year as well as 1st-team NAIA All-American. Ryan Harris (1st-team), Juwan Jones (honorable mention), and Curtiss Anderson (honorable mention) were also named All-Conference. The team featured two All-Americans in Jenkins and Harris (3rd-team) as well as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in Praneeth Udumalagala.

The Rams won the program's second NAIA National Championship, finishing the season with an overall record of 29-7. The team featured three NAIA All-Americans for the first time in program history. Dion Rogers was named 1st-team NAIA All-American as well as MVP of the National Tournament. Naiel Smith was named 3rd-team All-American, and Najeal Young was an Honorable Mention All-American selection. Praneeth Udumalagala was named NAIA Scholar-Athlete. With an SAC record of 13-5, the Rams won their second consecutive SAC Regular Championship. Shingleton was named SAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year, while Rogers, Smith and Young were all named All-Conference and Smith was named SAC Newcomer of the Year.

Shingleton was named Sooner Atheltic Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Rams back to the NAIA National Tournament. The team posted an overall record of 24-8 and won the SAC regular season championship with a league record of 14-4. Jerell Ellis was named SAC Player of the Year and 1st-team NAIA All-American while Sam Akano was also an All-American selection. The team posted a 12-game winning streak in January and February and was ranked as high as 3rd in the nation before finishing the year at No. 10 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.
2014-15: 15-15, 4-14 SAC
The Rams finished at 15-15 overall. The team's 12-0 start was the second best in program history and had the Rams ranked as high as 12th in the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
2013-14: 15-16, 8-12 SAC
The Rams went 15-16 overall with four wins against nationally ranked opponents including two in the top-10. They also garnered wins over six teams in the NAIA National Tournament field including two of the final four.
2012-13: 20-12, 12-10 RRAC
In his first season as head coach, Shingleton led the Rams to their sixth consecutive season in which the program produced 20 or more wins with an overall record of 20-12. The Rams were ranked as high as 11th nationally and finished the season with three All-Conference selections.
