Troy Taylor

Troy Taylor is entering his first season (2025-26) as the assistant coach for Cross Country and Track & Field.

Prior to his time at Texas Wesleyan, Taylor is coming from being an assistant coach at Nicholls State for the 2023 & 2024 seasons, he also coached at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia for two seasons, coaching athletes to new school records in every event from 800m-10,000m. He also coaches two seasons at American River College, a junior college in Sacramento, California where he coached multiple individual conference and state champions. Prior to his time at American River, Taylor was a volunteer assistant for two seasons at his alma mater, the University of North Texas. He helped coach his former cross country team to its second Conference USA title in five years in 2018 as he coached under his collegiate head coach, Stefanie Slekis and Kevin Williams.

Prior to his coaching career, Taylor was an All-Conference and All-NCAA South Central Region honoree. In 2015, Taylor was the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Champion in the 3000m. He got second place in the 1,500 meters at the 2013 Sun Belt Championships and the 2014 Conference USA Championships. in 2012, Taylor was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in Cross Country. Taylor became a conference champion in 2014 when he helped lead the Mean Green to a Conference USA title. Taylor was a three-time national qualifier and competed at the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. He also competed at the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round in the 1500m.

A native of Rhome, TX, Taylor graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Kinesiology in 2016.
