Shaun Hensley is entering his third season (2021-22) as Head Coach of Texas Wesleyan Men's Golf, while he served the previous two seasons as Associate Head Coach.
As Associate Head Coach, Hensley was instrumental in guiding the Rams to the program's seventh NAIA National Championship in 2019. In his four seasons, the team has produced 16 tournament wins while finishing no worse than third at the national championships.
Last season (2020-21) Hensley continued to guide his athletes through the COVID-19 landscape and led the team to a record 11th NAIA National Runner-Up finish. The team played seven events and produced six top-5 finishes including a victory at the Dornick Hills Classic in the season opener. The Rams were rated in the top-12 all-season, reaching as high as No. 8 on two occasions.
After a disappointing fourth place finish at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships the defending National Champions made their 59th NAIA National Tournament appearance. The Rams played the first three rounds with only four players, but a second round 67 from Tyron Davidowitz paced the Rams to the lowest round of the tournament at 282 and vaulted the team from fourth to second. After losing ground with a 307 in round three, the Rams went low again with a final round 286 to charge within a stroke of defending their title. In the end Dalton State held the Rams off by a single shot.
Davidowitz was named 1st-team NAIA All-American while Chayan Duha (2nd-team), Taylor Beckstead (3rd-team) and Zhao Gu (3rd-team) also garnered All-American accolades. The team received SAC Scholar-Team recognition with the highest GPA of all of Texas Wesleyan's varsity teams at 3.57. Five Rams were named Academic All-SAC and seven were named SAC Scholar-Athletes.
As head coach, Hensley has produced three tournament wins, four All-Americans, 9 Academic All-SAC selections and 9 SAC Scholar-Athletes.
Â
Hensley, who was a Lee Trevino Scholar at Texas Wesleyan, played two seasons for the Rams after redshirting the 2012-13 season while regaining his amateur status. Following his graduation in 2015, Hensley served one season as a Graduate Assistant at Texas Wesleyan before becoming the Head Men and Women’s Golf Coach at Ranger College.Â
Â
At Ranger, he served under Athletic Director Billy Gillispie during the 2015-16 season. Hensley led the Rangers to a national ranking of 18th (NJCAA Division I) and a sixth place finish in the region.
Â
In his two seasons as a player at Texas Wesleyan, Hensley helped the Rams to back-to-back sixth place finishes at the NAIA National Tournament. In his career he notched a scoring average of 74.89. As a junior, he posted a scoring average of 74.64 and notched three top-10 finishes including an 8th place finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship.

Hensley resides in Fort Worth with his wife, Ashley.

2019-20:Â
Hensley's first season as head coach (2019-20) was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the reigning NAIA National Champions continued to thrive under his guidance. The Rams played seven tournaments and produced a pair of wins and four runner up finishes. The team won his first tournament as head coach, the Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek to open the season. Tyron Davidowitz had taken back-to-back individual wins at the Claude Jacobs Invitational and the San Antonio Shootout when the season was halted. The Rams were rated as high as No. 1 and never fell out of the top-10 in four NAIA Coaches' Polls during the season. Four Rams were named Academic All-SAC while Davidowitz and Victor Miron were SAC Scholar-Athlete Selections.Â
