Matt Wilkins

Matt Wilkins joined the Lady Rams’ coaching staff as an assistant coach in the summer 2014.

Wilkins brings over twenty years of coaching experience to Texas Wesleyan, including public and private secondary education and collegiate level experience.

Wilkins graduated in 1995 from Howard Payne University with a Bachelors degree in Exercise and Sports Science.  While at Howard Payne University, he served as student assistant from 1991-1992, the head JV men’s basketball coach from 1993-1995, and as the assistant varsity men’s basketball coach from 1993-1995.  Wilkins has been a part of two NAIA Division 2 Conference Championship teams and has coached three All-Americans.

From 1996-1998, he served as the Athletic Director and coach at Brenham Christian Academy in Brenham, TX.  At BCA Wilkins began coaching softball.  He also was the varsity six man football and the varsity boys basketball coach.

In 1998, he moved to Tomball, TX and served as Athletic Director and coach at Rosehill Christian Academy.  He was also the head six man football, basketball, and golf coach.

In 1999, Wilkins received the opportunity to coach and teach at Italy High School in Italy, TX.  There he was assistant varsity football coach, assistant varsity men’s basketball, head JV men’s basketball, and head tennis coach.

In 2000, Wilkins studied at the Massage Institute of Dallas where he received his RMT license. He focused on sports rehab and sport injury prevention and still uses the skills he learned today on his athletes.  He was an active RMT from 2000-2008.

In 2009, Wilkins served as the assistant men’s basketball and assistant softball coach at Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth, TX.  It is during this time that his passion for softball was ignited.

Throughout the years, Wilkins has established and run a successful boys select basketball program for grades three through twelve.  When his daughters were old enough to begin playing softball he focused solely on softball.  He has coached 10U through 16U and currently coaches an 18U select softball team.

He resides in Burleson, TX and is married to Sharena Wilkins and has four daughters, Maloree, Kallee, Regan, and Mattee.
