Scott Hyland is entering his fourth season (2026-27) as the Head Coach for Texas Wesleyan Women’s Basketball. Hyland brings over 30+ years of basketball expertise to the Rams with numerous Conference Championships and several All-American players.
Hyland currently sits at 391 wins with an overall record of 391-314 (.555) and Is one of two coaches in the history of women's college basketball in the state of Texas to have the most wins at multiple colleges in Texas
Last season the Rams were 14-16 and the eighth seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament where they became the first team in recent memory to ever upset the number one seed in the opening round of the conference tournament. The Rams were stout defensively as they finished in the top five in the conference in several defensive categories. Kameryn Phillips was the lone Ram to be named to the All-Conference second team.
Prior to coming to Texas Wesleyan, Hyland was the Head coach at Hill College where he spent over 11 seasons (2012-2023) with the Rebels. During his tenure, he recorded an overall record of 213-117, becoming the program’s all-time leader in wins. Hyland had led the Rebels to the postseason tournament nine consecutive seasons, the longest streak in Region V at the time, and won 17 games or more for 10 consecutive years. Under his leadership, the Rebels won three North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) titles and finished in the top 25 in the country several times. Hyland also had four players who play professional basketball overseas as well.
Prior to his time at Hill College, Hyland was an assistant at Texas Southern (NCAA Division 1) and the Head Coach at Texas A&M – Kingsville (NCAA Division 2) where he helped the Javelinas compete for the Lone Star Conference title for four seasons and helped them gain recognition nationally.
Before jumping into Head Coaching in the NCAA, Hyland was nationally recognized in the Junior College world where he currently holds the record as the winningest Head Coach in Paris Junior College Women’s Basketball Program History. During his time at Paris Junior College, Hyland achieved 80 wins in just five seasons and his team set or tied 19 team records and 16 individual records. Hyland helped the Dragons achieve their first ever national ranking in the 2005-06 season.
Hyland had several stops beforehand as he was the assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette, Odessa College, Dana College, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and University of Mary. His first ever coaching job came at the College of St. Mary. Hyland was a four year starter for the University of Mary as a player.
In his time away from basketball, Hyland enjoys spending time with his wife Yvonne who he’s happily been with for 34 years. He also loves taking their two dogs on walks around the neighborhood. He and Yvonne have two sons, Reid and Sean, who they enjoy traveling to see.
