Knights Best Lady Rams, 3-0

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (8-5, 2-3 RRAC) suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Northwood University (8-3-1, 4-0) at Martin Field on Thursday.

The day did not start well.  In the 11th minute, Northwood sent a free kick toward the goal.  A Texas Wesleyan player trying to head the ball out inadvertently put the ball in the net for the game’s first goal.

The Lady Rams eventually settled down.  In the 39th minute Christina Zimmerman just missed tying the game, but her shot from the top of the box hit the left post.  The Lady Rams were outshot 13-5 in the first half, but kept the score at 1-0 through the first period.

The Rams appeared to have righted the ship in the second half.  Early in the period the Rams’ bench thought the game had turned once on a foul in the box and again on a handball in the box, but neither call was made.  Texas Wesleyan outshot the Knights 12-5 in the second period but could not find the net.

In the 86th minute, Northwood’s Natalie Carter put the game out of reach.  Carter took the ball to the goal from midfield and scored at 85:09.  At 85:43, she took a free kick from near midfield and scored again.

For the game, Northwood led 18-17 in shots and 8-4 in shots on goal.  Katy Houchin made five saves for the Rams, while Lyndzey Goff made four saves for the Knights.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host LSU-Shreveport.  That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
