Controversy ensued on the match’s very first point. The Rams thought they had gotten a kill from
Jennifer Kline, but the initial decision was reversed and the point awarded to SAGU. Controversial decisions would be a theme for the night. Solid hitting from the Lion’s Brittany Toole would also be a theme. Toole poured in eight kills in the first game, and SAGU prevailed 25-17.
In game was very tight until SAGU’s Tina Brown laid out to knock the ball over and scored to put the Lions on top 18-15. That point was followed by a SAGU block, and the Lions pulled away for a 25-19 win.
Game three featured eleven tie scores and six lead changes. The Lions ripped off a 5-1 run to take an 18-15 advantage. SAGU continued to lead 21-15, when the Rams were called for four hits, when the ball had clearly been hit by a SAGU player just two touches earlier. The Rams regrouped and fought off four match points, but the damage had been done and the Lions closed out the match with a 25-20 win.
Haelee Horne led the Rams with 12 kills to go with 11 digs.
Marissa Rangel posted a match-high 18 digs, and
Evoni Darling set the TWU offense to the tune of 30 assists. Toole finished with a match high 17 kills against just one error in 31 hits for a total percentage of .516.
