AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (12-5, 6-3 RRAC) wrapped up the regular season with a 5-1 win at Huston-Tillotson University (4-12-2, 1-7-1) on Saturday. With the win, the Rams secured the fourth seed in next week’s Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
At 6-3 in conference play, the Rams will be seeded fourth in the RRAC tournament, which will be hosted by UT-Brownsville, November 4-6. Northwood University took the RRAC regular season title with a 1-0 win over UTB on Saturday. The Knights will be the top seed in the tournament, with UTB, Our Lady of the Lake, TWU, LSU-Shreveport, and Bacone rounding out the field.
Jacqueline Wittman got the scoring started against Huston-Tillotson when she converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute. The Rams added a goal from
Cara Lumpkin in the 44th minute and another from Wittman just 38 seconds before the half, to take command at 3-0 at the break.
Huston-Tillotson’s Courtney Willcutt found the net 1:22 into the second half. Texas Wesleyan benefitted from an HTU own goal in the 69th minute.
Sam Greer capped the scoring with a goal in the 76th minute off an assist from Jessica Watton.
For the game, the Rams outshot HTU 17-4.
Katy Houchin made two saves for Texas Wesleyan.
The Rams will face fifth seeded LSU-Shreveport in quarterfinal action on Thursday. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. In their only meeting this season, Texas Wesleyan took a 5-2 win over the Pilots at Martin Field.
