Lady Rams Rip Steers

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (11-12, 4-2 RRAC) took down Red River Athletic Conference opponent Texas College (2-19, 1-6 RRAC) in three games (25-16, 25-11, and 25-21) at the Sid Richardson Center Friday night.  

The Lady Rams started the match down 5-3 after a service ace from Amber Girdy, but Wesleyan rebounded quickly led by Haelee Horne. Horne notched six kills out of 10 attempts with no errors in game one, and the Lady Rams the first set win 25-16. 

Texas Wesleyan fired on all cylinders in the second set, rattling off a 10-0 run and charging out to a 14-3 lead. The Lady Rams kept tight wraps on a comfortable 10 point cushion from that point, as Horne continued to shine. Horne tallied another six kills in game two, totaling her kills at 12, versus the 12 total kills the Lady Steers had as a team to that point. Wesleyan ran away with a 25-11 set two win.

In the third set, the Lady Rams did a good job of spreading the ball around, and got a lot of different hitters involved in the attacking game, as 11 players had at least one kill in the match. Wesleyan ran into some error trouble late, but a kill by Jennifer Kline gave the Lady Rams the 25-21 third set and 3-0 match win. 

Horne led all players with 12 kills in two games of work, she hit .440 on 25 attempts and only one error. Evoni Darling led all players with 30 assists in the match, she also added eight digs. Christina Daniel hit .545 with seven kills on 11 attempts and one error. Kline hit .400 with seven kills on 15 attempts and one error in the win. Lynsay Buell added six kills for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams will take on Wiley College (10-6, 3-2RRAC) tomorrow, October 9, at 11:00 am at the Sid Richardson Center.
