In game three, the Rams trailed 9-3, but battled back to cut the margin to a single point at 16-15. Wiley maintained control and played their first match point at 24-20. The Lady Rams fought off four match points before falling 26-24 in the clinching game.
Texas Wesleyan posted more kills, 40, than Wiley, 38, but errors proved to be costly. The Rams committed 25 hitting errors and seven service errors compared to just 16 and 4 for the Wildcats.
“We were putting the ball away today,” commented head coach Christy Clawson, “but we are making too many errors. We fought hard and made good adjustments. If we reduce our errors it is all going to come together.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College. That match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
