FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (9-1) ran their streak to four as they picked a win against Oklahoma Wesleyan University (6-6) on Monday night at the Sid Richardson Center.
Both teams started out slow, with both offenses trying to feel out the other's defense. The game was scoreless for nearly the first three minutes until Oklahoma Wesleyan got on the board with a layup from Kayla Oleman. The Lady Rams got there first lead at 5-4 with a jumper by Eliana Mijangos, and turned on the jets from there. Texas Wesleyan’s defense shined, only giving up 17 first half points. Texas Wesleyan’s biggest lead of the half was a 12-point margin with 1:33 left behind a Tiffany Adair jumper.
The Lady Rams shot 35.3% from the floor, shot only 16.7% from behind the arc (2-12), and went 1-3 (33.3%) from the charity stripe. The Lady Eagles shot 31.8% from the floor, only 11.1% (1-9) from the three point line, and 50% (2-4) from the free throw line.
The Lady Rams completely dominated both ends of the floor in the second half, not allowing the Lady Eagles to score for over four minutes. Shayla Moore knocked down a three-pointer to start the half and extend the Ram lead to 30-17 with, and the Lady Rams never let off the gas from there. Texas Wesleyan all but shut down Oklahoma Wesleyan, cruising out to a 25-4 run that lasted over ten minutes. When the Lady Eagles were finally able to string points together, it was too late, as TWU led by as many as 39 points in the second half, taking a 74-38 victory.
The Lady Rams shot 48.6% from the field in the second half and 42% for the game. They went 4-8 shooting 50% in the second half from the three point line, and 30% for the game, while shooting 52.9% from the free throw line in the second half and 50% for the game.
Adair led all players with 17 points. Brittany White knocked down 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals for Texas Wesleyan.
The Lady Rams look to continue their momentum as they take on the University of New Orleans on Thursday, December 16, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center.
