LAMONI, IA: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (7-7) dropped a pair of matches at the 39th Annual Graceland Pizza Shack Invitational on Saturday. The University of St. Francis (11-0) edged Texas Wesleyan in five sets, while Ashford University (11-3) prevailed in three sets.
Against St. Francis, the Rams jumped ahead with wins of 25-21 and 25-17, but the Saints came right back with wins of 25-19 and 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set. USF went on to win that set 15-9.
Haelee Horne set season highs with 17 kills and 15 digs against USF. Jennifer Kline posted 11 kills. Evoni Darling notched 43 assists, and Stephanie Dominguez finished with a team-high 16 digs.
Against Ashford, the Rams fell 25-23, 25-20, and 25-22.
Horne again led the Rams' attack with 13 kills. Darling posted 26 assits and 13 digs in the loss.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on Our Lady of the Lake University. That Red River Athletic Conference contest is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
