FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday.  The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals (4-0) took a 1-0 win at Martin Field.

The Chaps prevailed with a fluke goal and some less than aggressive time management.  The two teams battled to a scoreless draw at the intermission, but the Lady Rams appeared to have the Chaps on their heels in the oppressive heat.

Then in the 53rd minute, TWU goalkeeper Katy Houchin came out to the top of the box, but collided with a Lady Ram defender and LCU’s Laura Martinez before she could coral the ball.  Amber Brown-Longoria was in the right place to clean up the mess and score the game’s only goal.

From there Lubbock Christian successfully worked the clock and held the Rams at bay.

Houchin made four saves for the Rams, while Lacy Burress used four saves to preserve LCU’s shutout.  The Rams outshot the Chaps 16-10 and led 7-2 in corner kicks.

“They took the life out of the game,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs, “but we fell for it and got frustrated by it.  I’m not disappointed with our effort.  I feel like we didn’t get beat, we just didn’t win this one.”

The Rams’ scheduled game with University of Science and Arts on Tuesday has been cancelled.  They will return to action when they host University of Houston-Victoria on Friday.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
