KERRVILLE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (6-1) nailed down their fifth shutout of the season, blanking Schreiner University (2-4) 6-0 on Tuesday.
After scoring her first two collegiate goals during a 5-0 win over the University of Houston-Victoria last week, freshman forward
Karissa Olson picked up right where she left off. Olson wasted no time getting the scoring started when she headed in a cross from
Trista Rivera in the fourth minute. Olson score again, this time on an assist from
Jodi Blowers, in the 20
th minute.
Katie Fruit scored three minutes later off an assist from
Cara Lumpkin, and the Lady Rams led 3-0 at the half.
The second half was more of the same. Lumpkin scored just over a minute into the period. Lumpkin scored again in the 54
th minute on an assist from
Kayla Mason. In the 60
th minute Lumpkin found Olson who made it a hat trick to cap the scoring at 6-0.
The Lady Rams outshot the Mountaineers 37-1, and led 9-1 in corner kicks.
Katy Houchin made one save while recording her 14
th career shutout. Schreiner’s Genevieve Monroe made 14 saves in the loss.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on Oklahoma City University. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
