FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (10-11, 3-2 RRAC) took a pair of matches from Bacone College and Huston-Tillotson University on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center. The Lady Rams defeated Bacone 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, and 25-18) before taking down Huston-Tillotson 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17).
In the match against Bacone the Lady Rams set the tempo early and kept the Lady Warriors on their heels led by Katherine Rosenbush who had four kills in the game one. Wesleyan spread the ball around keeping the Bacone defense off guard and taking game one 25-16. In game two, the Lady Rams kept the pressure on with more solid hitting while keeping the errors to a minimum which led to a 25-12 win. In game three, the Lady Warriors tested Wesleyan with good hitting, finding the holes in the Lady Ram defense. Bacone tied the game at 11 with a kill by Aisha Cole, then took a 13-12 lead by way of a Wesleyan error. The Lady Rams, led by Rosenbush and Christina Daniel, shut the door with some timely kills and Wesleyan took a 25-18 game three win.
The Lady Rams hit .301 as a team against the Lady Warriors, their best hitting percentage of the season. Texas Wesleyan’s previous high was .263 against St. Thomas Houston on September 4.
Rosenbush led all players with 11 kills, hitting .529. Lynsay Buell tacked on nine kills, hitting .692 on 13 attempts and no errors, adding four block assists as well. Hannah Horton tallied six kills and led the Lady Rams with 11 digs. Evoni Darling added 25 assists in the win.
In the match against Huston-Tillotson, the Lady Rams took control early and kept HTU at bay, showing consistent hitting, only committing four errors in a 25-15 game one win. In the second set, the Lady Rams continued to spread the ball around, and Huston-Tillotson continued to get themselves in trouble with errors. Wesleyan had their own short spell with errors but a kill by Jennifer Kline gave the Lady Rams a 25-20 game two win. In game three it was more of the same as Welseyan was led Kline and Christina Daniel. A service ace from Stephanie Dominguez sent Wesleyan to a 24-17 match point, and an attacking error by HTU gave the Lady Rams a 25-17 win.
Kline led Texas Wesleyan with six kills and four block assists. Daniel also notched six kills and had three block assists. Stephanie Randall had four kills and six digs, while Dominguez tallied 16 assists, seven digs.
The Lady Rams continue their home stretch with a match against Tarleton State University on Tuesday, September 28. Game time set for 7:00 pm at the Sid Richardson Center.
