Stars Outshine Lady Rams

Box Score

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: A year after the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team took a 5-2 over Oklahoma City University in Fort Worth, the Stars returned the favor in Oklahoma City. The Stars (4-2) topped the Rams (6-2) 2-0 on Saturday.

The Lady Stars took a 1-0 lead almost immediately. Josefine Holmgren scored off a corner kick by Malin Andersson just 2:05 into the game. Defense prevailed for the rest of the half, and the Stars maintained their 1-0 advantage at the break.

The second half was much the same. Oklahoma City got their second goal just over nine minutes into the second half, when Blerta Rahica scored off an assist from Stephanie Pena.

The Stars outshot the Rams 15-5 and led 7-4 in shots on goal. Katy Houchin made five saves for the Rams, while Oklahoma City’s Brittany Tibbs stopped all four shots that came her way.

“They are too talented a team and too well coached for us to play like we did and expect to win on the road,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “We did not play the game that we are capable of.”

The Lady Rams will open their conference season on Thursday, September 30, when they host Bacone College. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
