SHAWNEE, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-0) locked down its third shutout in four games, blanking Oklahoma Baptist University (1-1-1) 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Rams got all of their offense in the first twenty minutes.  Cara Lumpkingot the scoring started in the 15th minute off of a cross from Jessica Watton.  Four minutes later, Watton scored on a breakaway with the assist going to Jacqueline Wittman.

That was plenty of offense to support Katy Houchinwho made four saves while tying the school’s career record with 12 shutouts.  Houchin notched a single season record nine shutouts last season.  “Katy has been a tremendous asset to the team since day one,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  “We have had great goalkeepers here and she has earned her rightful spot at the top.  Her tireless dedication to the team, incredible work ethic, and fantastic leadership make her the player she is today.  I am honored to coach her and can’t put into words how proud we are of her.”

The Rams outshot the Bison 15-12 and led 8-4 in shots on goal and 3-0 in corner kicks.

“The weather picked up in the second half and gave them a huge wind,” Gibbs said, “but the girls did a great job of fighting them off.  We didn’t play great, but we fought hard as a team for ninety minutes and outworked a good OBU team.”

The Rams will return to action on Saturday when they host Lubbock Christian University.  That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
