Rams Rock Bulldogs

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (16-2, 9-1 RRAC) overpowered the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs (8-11, 5-5 RRAC) in route to an 81-49 win on homecoming on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center.

 

The Rams bounced out to a 9-0 run to start the game.  Jonathan Blake hit two three-pointers to give the Rams a 15-2 lead. The Bulldogs did not give much bite, as Wesleyan  held Jarvis Christian to only 18 first half points. The Rams took a 44-18 lead heading into the break.

 

Texas Wesleyan posted 20 points in the paint, had 10 points off turnovers, and 12 fast break points. The Rams shot 44 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from downtown, and 84.6 from the charity stripe in the first half. Jarvis Christian shot 17.6 percent from the floor, 18.2 percent from the three point line, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line in the first half.

 

It was the same story, different half for the Bulldogs in the second period as the Rams kept a 30 point lead on Jarvis Christian throughout the second half. Brian Lockett hit a three to try and spark a Bulldog comeback, but Bryce Hill came right back down the floor and answered with a Wesleyan three-pointer that kept the Ram lead at 31 points, 60-29. Aaron Johnson nailed a three-pointer from half court at the buzzer, but it was no help as Texas Wesleyan took the 81-49 win.

 

The Rams led by as many as 39 points and shot 39.7 percent from the floor, 36. 8 percent from downtown, and 74.1 percent from the free throw line for the game. Jarvis Christian shot 23.4 from the floor, 27.3 from the three point line, and 72.2 percent from the free throw line for the game.

 

Brian Wanamaker posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards in the effort, and Jeremy Mayfield had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Blake finished with 14 points and six boards, and Ty Gough followed with 13 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Smith tacked on 14 points for the Rams in the win.

 

The Rams host Texas College at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m.
