Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (16-3, 8-3 RRAC) took care of business with an 81-55 win over Texas College (12-7, 4-7 RRAC) Monday night at the Sid Richardson Center.

The Lady Rams came out like lightening, drilling three shots from downtown to secure a 9-6 lead out of the gate, while trying to hold off the scrappy Lady Steers. Texas Wesleyan kept the pressure on with runs of 13-1 through five minutes of game time, and 13-2 to close the final six minutes of the half. The Lady Rams went 6-11 (54.5%) from behind the arc on the way to possibly the best half of basketball Wesleyan has played all season, up 47-23 on Texas College at the break. The Lady Rams led by as many as 25 in the first half, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The Lady Steers did their best to get back into the game in the second half, running a full court press throughout most of the half. The Lady Rams did a good job of maintaining possession, keeping a 20-point advantage on Texas College for most of the contest. Solid defense was the key to Wesleyan keeping the Lady Steers at bay, as the Lady Rams forced Texas College into 25 turnovers. The Lady Steers only shot 25.7 percent from the floor in the first half.  TC came out and shot 41.2 percent in the second half, but it was not enough as the Lady Rams took their ninth consecutive home win in an 81-55 blowout.

Tiffany Adair led the Lady Rams with 17 points. Brittany White posted 13 points behind eight rebounds and seven assists. Eliana Mijangos tacked on 10 points for Wesleyan, and Veronica Mergerson had a complete game on eight points, seven boards, and six assists.

The Lady Rams have an impressive 12-1 home record this season. Texas Wesleyan will travel to Hobbs, New Mexico, to take on the University of the Southwest on January 27, at 5:30 pm MST, before defending their home turf against Paul Quinn on Saturday, January 29, at 2:00 pm.
