FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (9-10) picked up an impressive 3-1(25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 27-25) win over Oklahoma City University (10-13) at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday night.

 

The Lady Rams jumped all over the Lady Stars in the first set, keeping Oklahoma City on their heels for most of the set and took a 25-19 win. Lynsay Buell  led the Rams with four kills and Alex Hendee picked up two service aces.

 

Texas Wesleyan picked up another set with a four kill performance from Katherine Rosenbusch, but the Lady Stars made it a game crawling back from a four point deficit, but the Lady Rams held on to win 25-22.

 

In the third set the Lady Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Wesleyan tied it at 4-4 with a Marissa Rangel service Ace. Oklahoma City inched back out to a 14-10 lead and held the lead until a Bailey Bunting Kill and a Stars attacking error tied the game at 21-21. A kill from Hendee gave the Lady Rams a 23-22 lead, but Oklahoma City fought back to take a 26-24 set three win with back to back kills from Meghan Irwin and Raissa Santos.

 

The fourth set started like the third, with Wesleyan falling behind early 3-0 with kills from Santos and Irwin. Oklahoma City kept a small advantage through most of the match as the Lady Rams scratched at the lead. A Buell kill got the Lady Rams within one at 16-15. Another Buell kill tied the game at 16-16, and a Bunting kill gave Wesleyan a 21-20. A Lady Stars kill by Torrie Flynn stole the lead from the Lady Rams, but Buell and Meghan Finley teamed up for two kills to take a 24-23 lead. The score was level two more times before the Lady Rams wore down Oklahoma City and got the 27-25 fourth set and 3-1 match victory.

 

“I was extremely impressed with the first two sets,” said head coach Christy Clawson. “We are still working on beating ourselves with mental mistakes, but we’ve identified the problem, we’ll fix it, and when we do we’re going to be in great shape for the rest of our conference match ups.”

 

Buell led the Rams with 13 kills. Stephanie Dominguez notched a double double behind 21 assists and 10 digs. Angelica Arroyo also had a double double with 19 assists and 13 digs. Rosenbusch tallied 11 kills to go along with four blocks, three of them solo. Bailey Bunting also picked up 11 kills in the win.

 

The Lady Rams are back in action tomorrow as they take on Southern Nazarene University. Time of the match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
