FORT WORTH, TX: The tenth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (5-1, 2-0 RRAC) used another strong second half and 65 points from
Eric Frederick and
Ronnie Moss to take a 92-75 win over Paul Quinn College (1-4, 0-1) at the Sid Richardson Center on Wednesday.
Paul Quinn came out hot and gave the Rams all they could handle in the first half. Nafis Richardson hit four three’s and went for 18 points in the period, and his Tigers led by as many as 13 points (27-14). The Rams continued to trail 43-32 before closing the half on a 5-2 mini run to trail 45-37 at the break.
After shooting just 35% from the floor and 31% from three-point range in the first half, the Rams turned the tables, shooting 59% from the floor and 67% from distance in the second half.
Frederick started the turnaround with 10 points during a 12-2 run to begin the second half. The Tigers stayed in the game and actually led 59-58 when a pair of three’s from Frederick sparked a 14-0 run. That left the Rams in command at 72-59 with 7:10 on the clock.
The lead quickly swelled to 20 at 82-62. A monster dunk from Frederick on a feed from Moss brought the score to 90-71 and put the exclamation point on a 92-75 win.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Tigers 47%-43% from the field and 46%-37% from long range. Texas Wesleyan crushed Paul Quinn 46-28 on the boards and 25-12 in fast break points.
Frederick led the Rams with 35 points and 15 rebounds. Moss finished with 30 points and seven assists.
Oscar Griffin came off the bench to contribute 10 points, and
Brian Talley fought through foul trouble to put up nine points and five assists.
Richardson paced the Tigers with 29 points and seven assists. Deandre Hayden added 15 points. Aaron McCuin chipped in 12 points, and Reginald Hill finished with 11 for the Tigers.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Shreveport, LA, to take on sixth ranked LSU-Shreveport. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at The Dock.
