Pilots Survive Lady Rams in OT

Box Score SHREVEPORT, LA:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (5-2, 2-1 RRAC) dropped an 83-78 overtime decision at LSU-Shreveport (5-2, 3-0) on Saturday.
 
Nicole Terral got the Lady Rams started right as she dropped each of her first three three-point attempts staking her team to an early 25-14 lead.  The Pilots then ripped off nine unanswered points and later took a 29-28 lead with a pair of free throws from Sharde Henry.
 
Henry finished the first half with 12 points and LSUS led 33-32 at the intermission.
 
Five points from Terral sparked a 12-0 run midway through the second half the put the Lady Rams on top 54-43.  The Pilots came charging back in the final 2:30 of regulation.  After a TWU turnover, Henry hit a jumper.  Terral fired up a three that rimmed out, and Jennifer Hicks came back down the floor to nail a three-pointer that cut the Pilot’s deficit to a single point at 65-64 with 1:40 to play.
 
The Pilots pushed ahead 69-67 after Hicks scored with 13 seconds to play.  On the other end, Kayla McCray missed a jumper, got her own rebound, and scored with a foul with a single tick on the clock.  McCray’s free throw did not go down, and the game rolled into overtime.
 
Christy Willis started the extra period with a three-pointer for LSU-Shreveport.  With 2:30 to play, Terral pulled up and hit a deep three that gave TWU a 76-74 advantage, but Hicks leaned into a three-pointer to answer on the other end.  The lead changed hands two times before a pair of free throws from Meoshi Bradley extended the Pilots’ advantage to 81-78 with 22 seconds remaining.
 
Terral put up a contested three with five seconds on the clock that was on line, but just short.  The Rams were then forced to foul and Jenna Diakos iced the game with two at the line.
 
For the game, the Pilots outshot the Rams 50%-43.5% from the field and 89% (16-18) – 69% (11-16) at the free throw line.  The Rams had a 40-34 advantage on the glass.  Both teams turned the ball over 16 times, but the Rams led 26-13 on points off of turnovers.
 
Terral paced the Rams with 19 points.  Kristi Alexander filled the stat sheet to the tune of 18 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.  McCray added 16 points and seven rebounds to the cause.
 
Henry led all scorers with 20 points to go with 10 assists and eight boards.  Hicks added 19 points for the Pilots.
 
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, December 10, when they host Southwestern University.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
