FORT WORTH, TX: The sixth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (25-2, 18-1 RRAC) took a convincing 97-64 win over Bacone College (10-15, 5-13) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
The Rams kept the Warriors at arm’s length through much of the first half. Bacone did use a 14-2 run to close to within two points at 34-32. However, after a Texas Wesleyan timeout, the Rams closed the half on a 13-5 run to lead 47-37 at the break.
Texas Wesleyan put the game away quickly in the second half. An impressive 21-3 run brought the score to 73-45 midway through the period. The Rams went on to lead by as many as 35 points (88-53) on their way to the 97-64 route.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Warriors 57%-35.7%, including 66.7%-27.5% in the second half. The Rams also shot 42.9% (6-14) from long range while holding Bacone to just 21.1% (4-19). Texas Wesleyan held a 49-32 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Warriors 44-34 in the paint.
The Warriors were led by James Scott’s 15 points.
The Rams now hold a two-game lead in the RRAC standings with three games to play thanks to a 99-98 Jarvis Christian College win over LSU-Shreveport on Saturday. The Rams could clinch at least a share of a fourth consecutive RRAC Regular Season Championship with a win on Monday.
Texas Wesleyan will host Langston University on Monday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start and will be preceded by Senior Day festivities.
