FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team improved to 23-4 overall and 15-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference by picking up a 72-53 win over Bacone College (16-8, 10-8 RRAC) on Think Pink Day at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
The Lady Rams went down 5-2 early, before making a 10-0 run to take a 12-5 lead with 15:22 left in the half off of a Nicole Terral three pointer. Wesleyan took a 10 point, 20-10 lead midway through the first half from a Terral layup. The Lady Warriors made it an eight point game on the ensuing possession, off of a three point play by Courtney Warren to make it 20-13. Texas Wesleyan put the pedal to the floor from there, taking a 16-point 37-21 lead at the half. Octavia Mullins and the Lady Rams put on a rebounding clinic during the first half, with 26 rebounds, 19 of those being defensive. Mullins had as many rebounds as the Lady Warriors with nine.
Wesleyan outshot Bacone 55% to 28%. The Lady Rams were 16-29 from the floor, while the Lady Warriors were 8-28.
Five minutes into the second half, Mullins was out rebounding Bacone 11-10, as a Brittany White layup gave the Lady Rams a 45-25 lead. The Lady Warriors had no answer for any combination of Wesleyan ensemble that head coach Stacy Francis put on the floor. The Rams kept a substantial lead for the remainder of the contest on their way to a 72-53 win.
Wesleyan shot exactly 50.0% in all three categories for the second half. Bacone shot 32% from the floor, 13% from behind the arc, and 67% from the free throw line.
For the game the Rams shot 52.6% from the floor, 38.9% from downtown, and 55.6% from the charity line.
Shayla Moore led the Lady Rams with 20 points and adding five assists. Terral picked up 15 points in the win, while Rachelle Franklin tallied 12 points and eight boards in the win. Mullins finished with 12 rebounds for Wesleyan.
The Lady Rams host Langston University (21-4, 16-1 RRAC) on Monday, February 21. The Lady Lions sit at the top of the RRAC standings, while the Lady Rams sit in the second spot two games back. Game time is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Sid Richardson Center.
