Box Score vs. Our Lady of the Lake
PLAINVIEW, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team improved to 3-1 on the young season after splitting a pair of matches at Wayland Baptist University’s Coke Classic on Saturday. The Lady Rams fell 3-0 to #23 Lubbock Christian University (3-0) before sweeping Our Lady of the Lake University (1-3).
At the end of the day, Texas Wesleyan’s
Katherine Rosenbusch and
Bailey Bunting were both selected to the All-Tournament team. Rosenbusch hit .369 for the weekend and averaged 3.5 kills per game. Bunting added 2.7 kills and 1.2 blocks per game for the Lady Rams.
Against Lubbock Christian, the Chaps won with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-20. The Lady Rams were able to keep the match close as evidenced by 27 tie scores and 12 lead changes, but Texas Wesleyan could not gain the upper hand.
Rosenbusch posted a match-high 11 kills, while Bunting added eight kills and six total blocks.
Stephanie Dominguez dished out 16 assists and 13 digs.
Marissa Rangel added 13 digs as well.
The match with Our Lady of the Lake was a similar story with 21 tie scores and eleven lead changes, but the Lady Rams were never threatened late. In all three games, the Lady Rams held relatively comfortable leads of 23-20.
Rosenbusch led the way with eight kills and three blocks. Dominguez finished with 16 assists.
“We struggled in serve receive against Lubbock Christian and needed to serve more aggressively,” commented head coach Christy Clawson. “Against OLLU, we did a good job keeping our composure and making adjustments. The girls are having to be very versatile since we only have one outside hitter healthy, but they are playing well together. This is a hard working group that is determined to be successful.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, September 1, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on St. Mary’s University. That match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
