FORT WORTH, TX: For the fourth time this season, Texas Wesleyan University’s
Octavia Mullins has been named Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Mullins picked up the award for her performance during the period of January 16-22.
Mullins, a senior forward from Hoover, AL, turned in a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Lady Rams, giving her four consecutive double-doubles and 10 on the season. She scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in just 28 minutes during a 101-70 defeat of the University of the Southwest (NM). She then led the Rams to a 59-54 win at #5 Langston University (OK), handing the Lions their first loss of the season. In that game, Mullins was good for 15 points and 13 boards.
Mullins shared the award with Aliesha Carruthers of Wiley College (TX). Carruthers, a junior guard from Houston, TX, contributed in all phases of the Lady Wildcats' only game of the week, a conference victory over Texas College. She posted 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals as Wiley climbed to 6-4 in the RRAC and 10-6 overall with the 91-75 victory.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host LSU-Shreveport. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
