SAN ANTONIO, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (10-3, 5-2 RRAC) saw a five-game winning streak come to an end with an 82-75 loss at Our Lady of the Lake University (12-2, 7-1) on Monday.
After Texas Wesleyan started the game with a 7-2 run, the Saints stormed back with ten unanswered points. OLLU’s full court pressure forced the Lady Rams into 13 first half turnovers, which the Saints turned into 15 points. The Saints stretched the lead to as many as nine at 38-29, but
Nicole Terral knocked down a three just before time expired to send the Rams to the locker room trailing 38-32.
The Lady Rams came out firing in the second half. Terral scored five points during an 11-2 run that gave TWU a 43-40 advantage. The lead changed hands twice before OLLU took off on a 15-1 run. When the smoke cleared, the Saints held a healthy 67-54 lead with just over seven minutes to play.
OLLU’s lead hovered around double-figures until the final minute of the contest. Texas Wesleyan was able to make it a two-possession game on four occasions in the final 60 seconds, but the Saints went 7-for-8 at the free throw line to hold off the charge.
The Lady Rams outshot the Saints 46%-39% while both teams brought down 43 total rebounds. The Saints pressure proved to be the difference as OLLU forced 23 turnovers while committing 13 for a 27-12 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Terral led all scorers with 18 points.
Kristi Alexander added 15, and
Brittany White finished with 11 for the Lady Rams.
Nikkia Davis came off the OLLU bench to lead the Saints with 15 points. Treshenia Solomon put up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College in Red River Athletic Conference Action. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
