Fort Worth, Texas- The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team halted a five game losing skid Friday night as the squad took down Texas College in three-consecutive sets (14-25, 15,25, 16-25) to run away with a win on senior night. The Lady Rams improve to a 6-3 record in conference play and 17-13 overall.

Before the match, Texas Wesleyan honored the only senior on the 2012 squad, Angelica Arroyo, who ranks number 26 in Division 1 in total assists (1121) and also ranks number 45 in assists per game. Arroyo also holds the individual record for assists per match after she recorded a game high 110 assists against SAGU on September 25th. Head Coach Christy Clawson is proud of Arroyo and her accomplishments on and off the court.

“I love that kid so much,” said Clawson. “She has raised a beautiful little girl and has a good GPA and will be graduating in May. She is the rock of this team right now. The fact that she is leaving next year is difficult and it is going to be really hard to replace. Not just the fact that she’s a senior and she is good, but her personality and what she brings to the team.”

As the game began, the Lady Rams seemed to have full control of the match, as Texas Wesleyan never trailed during the first two sets. The Lady Rams downed Texas College 25-14 in the first set. In the second set, Texas Wesleyan went on an 8-0 run to pull ahead 15-7 during the period. Texas College was unable to prevail as the Lady Rams took the set 25-15.

Texas College took off to a 4-1 lead early in the third set, which would become their largest lead of the night. After an attack error on Emma Stanford, head coach Clawson called for a timeout which helped her squad gain momentum to pull away and win the set 26-16.

“It’s a great win to have on senior night,” said Clawson. “We have done everything we have been working on all week. We have been working on serving aggressively and earning points when we are serving because that is where we were struggling. I am really proud on how they played tonight.

Alex Hendee racked up 7 kills and 7 digs in the match, while Angelica Arroyo led the way in assists with 41.

The Lady Rams will play two games Saturday, November 3rd as they host Jarvis Christian College at 11:00 a.m. and Wiley College at 4:00 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Center.
