Women's Basketball vs. Bacone 2/25/12 Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (23-6, 18-5 RRAC) picked up a 74-63 senior day win over Bacone College (11-19, 6-18 RRAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.
Texas Wesleyan honored seven seniors who would play the last home game of their careers before the game. Kristi Alexander, Ashley Bringol, Emma Fradette, Octavia Mullins, Bre'Untay Reed, and Brittany White were all honored at center court for their support and contribution to the Lady Rams basketball program.
Both clubs started out fairly slow for the first three minutes until the Lady Rams went on a 10-0 run to grab a 14-8 lead with 14:37 left in the first half.
Wesleyan tried to keep that sizeable margin, but an 8-0 run by the Lady Warrior cut the lead to 22-20 midway through the first half.
The Rams took an 11-3 run capped by a Courtney Turner triple to get back out to a 33-23 lead. In the middle of this run White became the twelfth member of the Texas Wesleyan University 1,000 point club with a put back lay in with 9:03 left in the first half.
Texas Wesleyan took that momentum and let it carry them to a 40-31 half time lead.
The Lady Rams shot 44 percent from the field in the first half, while Bacone shot 32 percent. The Lady Rams were also sharp from behind the arc, shooting 42 percent. The Lady Warrior shot only 15 percent from the three point line going only 3-20. Wesleyan went 6-6 from the free throw line, and the Bacone shot 46 percent.
Wesleyan jumped out to a 50-37 lead to start the second half with a Bringol jumper with three minutes gone.
Bacone put out a 12-0 run on the Rams that cut the lead to 59-56 capped by a Danielle Jackson layup with seven minutes remaining.
The runnin’ Rams rumbled back out to a dime sized lead as the Wesleyan offense was too potent for the Warriors. At the 1:37 mark Mullins pulled down her twelfth rebound of the game, breaking her own single season rebound record with 355 boards.
The Rams played the last minute out on the way to a 74-63 conference win.
Wesleyan shot 44 percent from the field in the second half, only 22 percent from downtown, and 58 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Warrior shot 36 percent from the field, 6 percent from behind the arc, and 71 percent from the charity stripe.
For the game the Lady Rams shot 44 percent from the field, to Bacone’s 34 percent. Wesleyan shot 33 percent from the three line, while the Warriors shot a dismal 11 percent from downtown only connecting on 4 of 36 attempts.
Four Lady Rams reached double figures in the last home game of the season. White hit 18 points and had 10 boards on her way to a double double. Terral and Kayla McCray put in 12 points each in the win. Mullins had an All-American night on her way to 12 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists
Texas Wesleyan will travel to Austin to play Huston-Tiollotson on Monday, February 27. Game time is scheduled for a 5:30 P.M. start.
