FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (3-2) took three straight sets after dropping game one (22-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-19) to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (1-5) in the home opener at the Sid Richardson Center Tuesday night.

The match was extremely tight throughout, with neither team able to get out to a comfortable lead before the other forced their way back into the game.

SAGU took the first game 25-22 with a late rally that ended with a Lady Lion ace.

The Lady Lions looked like they would take game two, but a late Lady Ram rally tied the match at one apiece, 29-17.

SAGU hung around to keep it close, but were never able to sustain a lead or make a comeback as the Lady Rams took game three 25-21, and hit all cylinder in game four with a 25-19 win.

Head Coach Christy Clawson pointed out the team is battling some inconsistency, “considering the stage of the season and our youth, some inconsistency isn’t uncommon”, she continued, “SAGU is always a tough match…we came out a little flat, we’re still trying to find the right mix.”

Katherine Rosenbusch led Wesleyan with 17 kills and 3 blocks. Alex Hendee followed with 16 kills to go along with a match high 28 digs. Angelica Arroyo tallied 51 assists and 14 digs in the win. Meghan Finley had 15 kills. Abigail Zipoy added six kills and 10 digs for the Rams. Stephanie Dominguez put up 24 digs in the win.

The Rams will travel to Shawnee, OK to play Saint Gregory’s tomorrow starting at 7:00 p.m.
