WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (13-13, 5-3 SAC) took a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 26-24) conference loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (11-10, 4-4 SAC) on Thursday night.
The Lady Lions and Lady Rams played a tightly contested first set until SAGU used a 4-0 run to lead 14-10. Texas Wesleyan fought back to tie the game at 15-15 when
Lauren Hamaker pulled a fast one on the SAGU defense for a kill. The Lady Rams went on 5-0 run later in the match, capped by a
Katherine Rosenbusch kill to give the Rams a 21-16.
Meghan Finley notched a kill to give Wesleyan the 25-20 win.
The second set was close as well as the rivals did not want to give the other any type of advantage. The Lions got out to a slight 17-14 after a couple of long rallies.
Stephanie Dominguez got the Rams within one at 17-16 with a service ace. The Lady Lions got on a roll, taking a 24-18 lead. Although Wesleyan got the score to 24-20, it did not spark a rally as the Rams dropped the second set 25-20.
The third set was tied ten times before the Lady Lions went on a 9-1 run the take a 25-16 win. The Lions hit .265 while the Rams hit .135.

Alex Hendee block to jump out to a 14-8 lead in the fourth set. A Courtney Shirey kill gave the Rams an 18-11 to keep Wesleyan with a semi-comfortable lead. A Finley put the Rams up 23-19, before the home crowd sparked the Lady Lions to a 7-1 run for the 26-24 comeback fourth set win to take the match.
Finley led the Lady Ram charge with 13 kills. Rosenbusch hit .310 on 12 kills and nine digs in the loss.
Lauren Hutchinson posted 26 digs for Texas Wesleyan. Dominguez had 23 assists, while Hamaker notched 19.
The Lady Rams will come home to take on Southern Nazarene University at the Sid Richardson Center starting at 7:00 pm.
