FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (3-1) took a 71-60 win over Paul Quinn College (0-3) at the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.
Deonte Jones came out on fire, throwing in three three-pointers during a 14-8 run to open the game. Jones closed the half in similar fashion with back-to-back triples that brought the score to 36-26 at the break. In the first half, Jones posted 17 points on 6-of-6 from the floor and 5-of-5 from downtown.
In the second half, the Rams stretched the lead out to 17 points, 46-29, on a three from
Kenny Rhymes. That margin held at 62-45 with 6:39 to play. The Tigers cut the lead to single digits at 65-57, but the issue was never in doubt as the Rams cruised to the 71-60 win.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Tigers 50% - 35.6% from the floor and 52.4% - 28% from distance. Texas Wesleyan also dominated the glass 47-26.
Jones missed the only two shots he attempted in the second half and still finished with a team-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds.
Jorge Redmon posted 15 points, and
Rilwan Bakare finished with nine points and nine boards.
PQC's Colan Weasby led all scorers with 22 points, while Tevin Williams added 14 to the effort.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host MidAmerica Nazarene in the Burge Classic. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
