Lady Rams Fall to Cardinals

HOUSTON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (3-4) suffered an 84-73 loss on Saturday at the hands of NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word (3-0) at the University of St. Thomas Houston's PSN Sports Challenge.
 
The Lady Rams started the game with an 8-1 run, but UIW came back to tie the game at eight.  The Lady Rams led for much of the first half, but the Cardinals came back to snag a 38-35 edge at the intermission.
 
Texas Wesleyan led 63-58 midway through the second half, when the Cardinals took control with 10 unanswered points.  UIW then held off the Lady Rams in the final five minutes for the 84-73 win.
 
The Rams held the Cardinals to just 39% shooting from the floor while hitting 53% at their end.  Texas Wesleyan also held a slim rebounding margin, 33-31.  UIW hit 7-of-14 three-pointers, while the Rams knocked down just 3-of-9.  The Cardinals also benefited from 35 free throw attempts of which they hit 31.  The Rams shot a salty 92%, but scored just 12 points at the charity stripe (12-of-13).
 
Takoia Larry led the Rams with 25 points and seven rebounds.  ToiEasha Cooper added 20 points and five boards.  Kashay Barnes finished with 10 poitns.
 
Joslinn Douglass and Rose Whitehead led the Cardinals with 27 and 26 points respectively.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, November 26, in an exhibition contest at Tarleton State University.  That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in Stephenville, TX.
