Lady Rams Calm Cavaliers

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (17-17, 9-6 SAC) grabbed an easy 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) victory over St. Gregory’s University (6-23, 3-13 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.
 
The Lady Rams jumped out to a 10-4 lead to start the match, capped by an Abigail Zipoy kill before the Cavaliers were forced to take a timeout. The Rams continued the rally, an 8-0 run capped by a Meghan Finley kill to extend the lead to a 10-point 14-4 advantage. Wesleyan took another 5-0 run ending with a Katherine Rosenbusch kill for a 23-11 lead. The Rams went on to take the set 25-15. The Rams finished the first set with a .387 hitting percentage
 
Texas Wesleyan romped out to an 8-3 lead to start the second set, and then in a flash, a four point rally that preceded a 5-0 run made it a 17-10 lead. The Cavaliers cut the lead to four at 18-14 on a Tiphani Funk kill, but the Lady Rams on a 5-0 rally to end the set capped by a Zipoy ace for a 25-15 win.
 
Rachel Lucas gave St. Gegory’s their only lead of the night on a first point ace to start the third set. Alex Hendee and the Rams quickly got the lead back with an ace, and extended the lead to 10-5 with a kill. The Cavaliers got within one point at 15-14 with a Cierra Mullins kill.  A 9-4 run in favor of the Rams made it match point at 24-18, before another Hendee kill ended St. Gregory’s night on a sour note 25-18.
 
Hendee led all players with 14 kills, while adding nine digs. Lauren Hutchinson tallied 15 digs in the effort. Stephanie Dominguez added 15 assists. Rosenbusch went 8-2-18 in the attack category, hitting .333. The senior from Hutto, TX added three block assists, one solo block, and three service aces in the win.
 
The Lady Rams will celebrate senior night on Friday, November 8 against Southwestern Assemblies of God University. First serve is set for 7:00 pm in the Sid Richardson Center.
